Yangkok Local-level Government
The administrative headquarters of Yangkok Local-level Government is at Yangkok sub-station, north-west of Nuku station along the inland Sepik Highway towards Lumi. Most of the villages are located at an elevation of more than 600 masl along the foothills of the Torricelli range. Numerous creeks and rivers flow in the southerly direction from the headwater along the Torricelli range into the Sepik plains. River gravel is in abundance in Yangkok LLG area.
Under the Kina + Kina facility, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), in partnership with the Nuku District Development Authority co-funded a new building refurbishment to serve as an administrative hub for the Yangkok LLG to conduct government business of administering the 26 Wards in the area.
The people of Yangkok speak seven different local dialects and subsist on sago starch as the main staple food supplemented with root crops and bananas.
